The Gateway Story Story
Jason Stephen was born to be a builder. As a kid, a love for designing and building projects of all kinds led to the University of Wyoming and a master’s degree in Civil Engineering for the Laramie, Wyo., native. He later acquired a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Wyoming and Colorado. After graduation, Jason went to work for a government contractor, building roads and other infrastructure projects. However, he found the work unfulfilling because it took so long to see a project through.
In 2001, Jason teamed up with his father and a friend to establish a small general contracting company that specialized in residential and commercial construction. Some of their first jobs included a storage facility for the National Guard and a science room remodel. Eventually, Jason’s friend decided to leave the business so, with the help of his dad, he bought out the partner and went all in during 2003. Jason also changed the name of the company to Gateway Construction, LLC — a name that suggested the transition to a new chapter of life, perfect for a new business owner who also happened to build homes.
